Mu gorge
The river Segre, between Camarasa and Alòs de Balaguer, in the Comarca de la Noguera, is nestled between imposing eroded mountains that form a spectacular gorge.
The unique quality conditions offered by the Montsec sky make possible the research, training and dissemination of astronomy carried out by the Montsec Astronomical Park, with activities such as a permanent exhibition, the planetarium or a park.
The Mont-rebei gorge is formed by the Noguera Ribagorçana river in crossing the Serra del Montsec and separates Montsec d’Ares (Catalunya) from Montsec d’Estall (Aragó). It is the only gorge in Catalonia that remains unspoilt.
Balaguer Castle has been known as Castell Formós since the late Middle Ages. The castle of Balaguer was destroyed in 1413 following the war between the last count of Urgell Jaume II the Unfortunate and King Fernando I of Antequera.
It is located on a plain above the meander of the Segre that dominates the city of Balaguer, and from there radiates its influence in the counties of western Catalonia and the lands of the Aragón Strip. The delicate carving of the Saint Christ is surrounded by an imposing architectural ensemble formed by its church, the convent of the Clarisses, and the rectory and sanctuary houses.
The Pla d'Almatà is the largest Andalusian site preserved in Catalonia and one of the main ones in ancient Al-Andalus, the country founded by the Arabs on the Iberian Peninsula during the 8th and 15th centuries. Archaeological excavations have made it possible to recover an important collection of objects from everyday life that can be seen in the Museu de la Noguera.
