Ornithological tourism

The pre-Pyrenees and Lleida are places full of diversity. Together they form a small natural paradise for nature lovers and in this case for birdwatchers. Few such areas can offer to the visitors such a variety of species in just over two hundred kilometers.

In the south you can enjoy a steppe zone, the secans of Lleida, where you can see pin-tailed sandgrouses, little bustards and with some patience and dedication the black-bellied sandgrouse, but also very attractive wetlands the confluence of the Segre and Cinca, which during Spring is an important breeding area of several herons; Ivars pond where during the winter is common to watch mallard and Northern shoveler ducks, coots and the numerous flocks of Northern lapwings or Utxesa area where the marsh harrier is easily seen over the year.

In the mountains, the Montsec you can see flying raptors like the golden eagle or the lammergeier and a bit more to the north in Boumort the black vulture reintroduction. However, to observe the black woodpecker or the ptarmigan should go to the Pyrenees.
